Offshore section of Balticconnector natural gas pipeline receives construction permit in Finnish territorial waters

On 1 February 2018, the Finnish Safety and Chemicals Agency (Tukes) granted the Balticconnector project’s offshore pipeline a permit for the construction of the 33-kilometer section of the pipeline in Finnish territorial waters. WHAT IS BALTICCONNECTOR?

Balticconnector is a gas pipeline connecting Finland and Estonia. It will link the Finnish and Baltic gas markets, enabling their integration with the EU’s common energy market. Furthermore, the construction of new gas infrastructure in the Baltic states will allow bi-directional gas transmission between Estonia and Latvia. Combined with Balticconnector, this infrastructure will provide Finland and Estonia with access to underground storage in Latvia to meet the market demand.
