Balticconnector project receives water permit for its offshore section

On 30 November 2017 the Regional State Administrative Agency granted Baltic Connector’s offshore pipeline a permit in accordance with the Water Act. The decision permits Baltic Connector to build a offshore gas pipeline from Inkoo to the Finnish-Estonian border. The Regional State Administrative Agency has additionally granted a permit in accordance with the Water Act to build the Inkoo-Siuntio onshore pipeline under the Ingarskilajoki river.

The water permit granted for the offshore gas pipeline covers the waterway works and pipeline installations and use that are part of the construction work in the sea area. The water permit for the onshore pipeline allows Baltic Connector to do waterway works in the area where the pipeline goes under the Ingarskilajoki river, install the pipeline and use it.

Baltic Connector Oy is a state-owned company set up in 2015 to implement the Finnish part of the Balticconnector gas pipeline to be built between Finland and Estonia. When completed, Balticconnector will connect the gas networks of Finland and the Baltic countries and will enable the opening of the gas market in Finland. The EU has granted funding to cover 75% of the project, and the project is due to be completed by 2020.
