Offshore section of Balticconnector natural gas pipeline receives construction permit in Finnish territorial waters

On 1 February 2018, the Finnish Safety and Chemicals Agency (Tukes) granted the Balticconnector project’s offshore pipeline a permit for the construction of the 33-kilometer section of the pipeline in Finnish territorial waters. The permit allows Baltic Connector Oy to have its offshore pipeline built in the Inkoo municipality and in the Finnish territorial waters. The offshore pipeline’s Finnish landfall site is situated in the area of Fjusö cape in the Inkoo municipality where the offshore pipeline joins the project’s onshore pipeline.

Baltic Connector Oy is a state-owned company set up in 2015 to implement the Finnish part of the Balticconnector gas pipeline to be built between Finland and Estonia. When completed, Balticconnector will connect the gas networks of Finland and the Baltic countries and will enable the opening of the gas market in Finland. The EU has granted funding to cover 75 % of the project, and the Balticconnector gas pipeline is due to be completed by 2020.
