On 24 January 2018, Baltic Connector Oy signed a contract with Louhintahiekka Oy for excavation and other zone work at the compressor station. The measures outlined in the contract will be carried out before the start of the construction work of the compressor station.
“This is the project’s first actual contract agreement. We will be making our decisions on contractors for the compressor station and the building of the onshore pipeline during the spring. We are happy with our contract with Louhintahiekka Oy, because they have a long and extensive experience with the kind of excavation and zone work that corresponds to the measures needed at our compressor station,” says Tom Främling, Baltic Connector’s Project Director.
“In its construction phase the entire Balticconnector project will employ hundreds of people, the impact on employment being around 2,000 annual work units. Finnish contractors have a major opportunity to be employed by the construction works of the onshore pipeline and the compressor station,” says Herkko Plit, President and CEO, Baltic Connector Oy.
The contracted works at the compressor station area will commence at the beginning of February and be complete by the beginning of June.
Baltic Connector Oy is a state-owned company set up in 2015 to implement the Finnish part of the Balticconnector gas pipeline to be built between Finland and Estonia. When completed, Balticconnector will connect the gas networks of Finland and the Baltic countries and will enable the opening of the gas market in Finland. The EU has granted funding to cover 75 % of the project, and the project is due to be completed by 2020.
