Balticconnector is a gas pipeline connecting Finland and Estonia that will enable the interconnection of Baltic and Finnish gas markets. In accordance with the Finnish Water Act, the project’s Finnish constructor Baltic Connector Oy has applied for a permit to build a subsea gas pipeline from Inkoo’s Joddböle to the Finnish-Estonian border, as well as a permit for Inkoo-Siuntio gas pipeline to go under Ingarskilajoki river.
In accordance with the Finnish Water Act, the period of public notice for the permits at the Regional State Administrative Agency of Southern Finland will be held from 9 March to 10 April 2017. During this time the application documents will be available for the public at the info center of the Inkoo municipality. The documents will also be available at the Regional State Administrative Agency’s electronic Lupa database.
All parties can give notices regarding the water permit application and residents in areas influenced by the project can express their opinions on the matter. A request for comment will be made to the authorities.
Notices and opinions are asked to be delivered by no later than 10 April 2017 to the Regional State Administrative Agency, primarily by using the electronic notice form at www.avi.fi/muistutus.
In Finland, the pipeline will join the current transmission system at the Pölans valve station in Siuntio and enter the Baltic Sea at the Fjusö landfall site in Inkoo. The pipeline route will mainly run through the municipality of Inkoo and, for a short distance in the northern part of the route, the municipalities of Lohja and Siuntio.
The pipeline route takes account of the area’s current and future land use, planning and environmental considerations. It is based on minimising the impact of construction and any adverse effects on people, organisms and the environment during the operation of the pipeline. The Environmental Impact Assessment of the pipeline was completed in December 2015.
Baltic Connector Oy is a state-owned company set up in 2015 to implement the Finnish part of the Balticconnector gas pipeline project.
The documents can be found from the Regional State Administrative Agency’s Lupa database.
