The agreement negotiations lead by Baltic Connector Oy had concluded into agreement signing on February 14, 2019 with the gas transmission system operators (TSOs) of Finland, Estonia and Latvia. According the agreement, the gas transmission tariffs will be removed from interconnection points between the countries. Furthermore, the agreement foresees that the gas can be transported across Finland, Estonia and Latvia without additional charges. Agreement will become effective on January 1st, 2020.
“The agreement between the TSOs to remove transmission tariffs means that the first stage of building a regional natural gas market that comprises Finland and the Baltic States will be reached early next year. This arrangement between three countries marks a significant achievement in regional energy cooperation, and is the first of its kind in Europe. We have every reason to be proud of it,” says Kimmo Tiilikainen, Minister of the Environment, Energy and Housing.
